When you’re caught up in anxious feelings or re-living traumatic events it can feel impossible to break free. Sometimes you can even feel anxious about feeling anxious and you’re not even sure why anymore.
But feeling anxious about something very rarely makes it better. Instead you can find yourself living in a space where you feel on edge a lot of the time and in a state of fight or flight and that can be exhausting.
The same is true for trauma. If your mind is holding onto it, keeping it fresh, it’s probably trying to help you but in fact this nearly always does you more harm. Many people, if they’ve been through something traumatic, can remember the details very vividly, as if it’s just happened.
And just talking about it, without helping it to be processed into the part of our brain that stores normal memories, can keep it as real as the day it happened.
Sometimes we need some expert help to unravel what’s been happening and straighten out our lives again.
Hypnotherapy and NLP are invaluable for gently reprogramming your mind so that trauma loses it’s fierce hold and anxiety begins to make way for a calm, peaceful space.
